32/365 – Get a move on!

So new month, new beginnings and a new chance to start on one of the things I failed on in January.

The first month ended up being all about starting handmade projects so I’ve decided that February needs to be about what really is and should be the most important thing on the list – getting fit. This is something we should have tackled a long time ago. Both of carry more weight than we should and we’re also both really unfit.

It’s never too late to start so this is what we did today. Tried not to go all out (like I usually do when I start exercising) so hopefully we won’t be full of aches and pains tomorrow and can do another session. Got up this morning and did a few arm exercises. I bought one of those “shake weights” thingys about 4 months ago. One of those that look really dodgy when you use them lol. Only used it for a short period when I got it but I’m sure I could feel a little (!) bit of muscle in my arm. Hopefully if I actually manage to stick to it then I might have a bit less bingo wing going on come summer time. :)

I promised myself that I would do a some exercises on the Xbox when we got home from work and for once we did! Tried out Your Shape: Fitness Evolved for the first time. Only did a few of the games on it but as I said I didn’t want to go full out and put myself off. I also downloaded the DLC including the Bollywood dancing so I’m hoping to have a go at that later this week. :)

So early bed tonight. Been so tired lately that I think I need a long good nights sleep to sort me out. Just a few more arm exercises and a few sit-ups and then it’s off to dream land for me. Now I hope I have the determination to carry on with this exercise regime. If not i might call on you guys to give me a good kick up the backside! What I really want is to get to a point where I feel like getting up early just to exercise before work which is something I just can’t be bothered thinking about at the moment. I need my beauty sleep too much! ;)

31/365 – The rights and wrongs of the first month

So we’re at the end of the first already! Wow time flies. I guess time has always moved at the same speed but as you get older it just seem to appear like it’s speeding up…

So for the first time ever I wrote a list of New Years resolutions. Only time will tell if this was a good thing or not. I thought having the list to refer back to would possibly keep me on the right track or at least attempt to steer me in the right direction. So what went right and wrong so far in 2011? Well I know I didn’t build an igloo for my inner penguin but I’m fairly sure that I managed not to get abducted by aliens. As you can imagine these were not really all that important goals so let’s look back at the ones that were… I have a feeling that I’ve failed miserably already - my guess is about 10% passes and 90% fails? It could be even worse than this. This is NOT the start I wanted for the new year. :( I guess I’ll have to start again in February? Really must try harder! Come on!

Well one of the things I managed to do right was to blog more. I still can’t believe that I’m actually doing this! Another thing was to make more handmade items which is something I feel like I’ve also been fairly successful at. I am actually really enjoying making things so I have a feeling that I’ll be keeping this up for a fair bit of time. :) We have also started watching a few movies already this year even though I don’t think we’ve seen any for at least a week now and we haven’t been to the cinema yet either this year but I suppose this is still a start. We talked about picking just one actor/actress at the time and then try and work our way through all his/her movies at the time - both the good ones and the bad ones. Not sure how we would manage this but we might have a go at it. Anyway - I have a feeling that this is as far as the “successes” go…

There are a few things on the list that I wasn’t expecting to have started on yet like chocolate making and sign language, so I’m just going to ignore those for now.

Now onto the “failures”… Well to get fit was definitely way up there on the list and so far it’s definitely been more talk than action when it comes to this. We have also not started making meal plans so we are still a bit unorganised in the kitchen and still waste more food and fruit than we should. Housework has also been a bit hit and miss, a bit down to not feeling 100% all of the time but I’m pretty sure we’ll get there. It takes time when you’re trying to sort our all cupboards and drawers in a house. I think I keep too much rubbish so I need it to be a day where I just feel like getting rid of it all (like when I did all the bathroom cupboards). I do try and use my notebook a bit more for all those weird and wonderful ideas (mainly weird though) that pop into my head throughout the day but I’ve still got a long way to go on this. So my handwriting is still shocking, I don’t phone or write people any more than I did and I certainly still leave everything to the last minute. I’m sure there are plenty more things on the list that I’ve failed on so far, but this is already depressing enough so I’m turning a blind eye to them for now!

Hopefully a few of the “failures” will be improved upon so fingers crossed it will be a more cheerful summary of February. Get your act together woman!

30/365 – Why I blog and (and why I struggle)

In real life me having nothing to say is a bit of miracle – as I do talk a fair bit lol. In blog life me having nothing to say is becoming more of a common feature. I never realised that it would be this hard to come up with something to say every day!

I’ve had a look through some of the other one-a-day bloggers and there ares some really good blogging going on many of the blogs and a lot of people are still blogging every single day which is really impressive considering we’re nearly coming up to the end of the first month. I thought a lot of people would have lost interest after a week or two, or like myself just run out of stuff to say :) So why do I still try and blog every day? Well – I don’t have a lot of people visiting the site and I don’t get loads of comments every single post but that is not what this is about for me… A few years have come and gone and if you asked me what I did that year then my answer would probably be “not a lot lol”. Time seems to fly that quickly (must be an age thing! lol) and the days and months seem to pass without anything special standing out. I don’t mean that nothing special happens in my life, it’s more like it all just blurs into one. Of course some special events stand out a lot but it’s the ordinary days I want to try and keep track of so I’m sort of using this more like a diary. I don’t think this is how I initially intended to use this blog but it is just how it has turned out.

I’ve had a few days where I’ve really struggled to come up with anything at all but I still haven’t felt like quitting completely. This is something that I am actually really surprised about. I am very good at starting projects with all the best intentions, only to pack it in before too long as my interest moves onto something else – I guess a lot of people are the same. I don’t know what it is this year but I don’t feel like I “need” to do this but more that I “want” to do this. Maybe it’s because I’m part of something bigger this time? I feel like I wouldn’t be letting just myself down, but also all the other people who have invested a lot of their time getting this project up and running and also keeping it going.

I tend to blog at an evening about what I’ve done or what’s been on my mind for one particular day so I don’t usually have a problem finding the time to blog. However I have come to realise that a lot of my days are very “normal” and I find it hard to come up with something to actually blog about. This is why there isn’t just one theme running through the blog like some of the more “professional” one-a-day blogs I’ve been looking at. A lot of people seem to have a gaming theme on their blogs with a lot of good reviews. This is not really surprising as a lot of the people I follow on Twitter (where I heard about the one-a-day project) are gaming people and it was via them I heard about the project. I play a lot of games too but I don’t think reviews are my strong side as I like most things I play and would just end up being WAY too nice on everything lol. So most of the time I don’t know what I want to say so I just A. look at what I’ve done today or B. find something randomly on Google. This might make the blog a little bit all over the place but hey – it is after all subtitled “random ramblings of a penguingirl”. :D I know a few blog posts have been late (and I’ve cheated and back dated them like 27 and 28) but better late than never, right?

Anyway – I’ll keep randomly rambling on on a daily basis and hopefully by the end of the year I can look back through all my post and realise that I actually did do something this year. :)

29/365 – Achievement hunting and not much else…

Today has been a lazy Saturday – just the way we like it :D Steven hasn’t been feeling too good either over the last couple of days, so we decided to just spend the day lazying about and do some gaming on the Xbox. This is probably not the way we really should have spent our time today but hey – who cares? I’m sure the laundry and the housework will still be there in a couple of days?

I’ve set up a couple of goals on TrueAchievements. 1 get 25000g by Easter, 2 have completed at least 15 games by the same time and 3 have a completed score of at least 50%. All of these should be fairly easy for me to achieve and I might need to up the ante if I reach them too quickly – we’ll see. I decided to try and complete Lego Indiana Jones 2 as I’m only missing one achievement in it. It’s the one where you have to quick play through all the story levels and I’m almost done with them now so I will hopefully get it tomorrow. We also decided to play some Scene It: LCA. This was pretty good fun as usual and is one of those games where achivements usually unlock just by playing more and more, so we grabbed a couple along the way there too. No doubt we’ll be trying to go for a few more tomorrow. We’ve also been playing a bit of Pinball FX 2 today. I have to say that I’m pretty rubbish at it. My aim is okish but I’m never too sure what I’m aiming for so I doubt I’ll ever get to 100% on this game. Ah well – can’t win them all. ;)

I had all the best intentions of starting Your Shape: Fitness Evolved today to try and get started on the exercise regime that we so desperately need but I just couldn’t be arsed! I know – dreadful attitude. Really must give myself a big kick up the backside and do something about it next week. I was hoping to lose a fair bit of weight in January and I’m feeling like I’ve just wasted a whole month (which to be fair I have!). Anyway – it’s never too late to start, so I will honestly do my best for February.

As I said – today has been really lazy and not much has happened so therefore I’ve not got a lot to say about it really… So on that note:

28/365 – I am Danish so therefore I must love Lego… (and I do!)

So I finally felt a lot better and went into work today. It was nice to get out of the house a bit and back into a daily routine. The work day was it’s usual ordinary self (aka boring) but it was nice to see the people in the office and have a few laughs. Sounds like I was gone for months lol. At the beginning of the day it did feel like I hadn’t been in for ages, but by the time it was time to leave it felt like I hadn’t been away. Same feeling you get when you’ve been away on holiday – relaxed when you arrive back in the office and already planning what you need to do for the next many working days by leaving time.

As always not much else happened today… I helped Steven complete Lego Harry Potter so he is now 1000G closer to his next target. I myself managed to pick a fair few points playing the game but I will still have to play the whole game again to get my full score. There are a lot of the achievements in the game that are only awarded to the “main” player which is really annoying considering that I played the whole game with him. I really wish they would come up with some way of tracking who player 2 is and work out that I helped find all the gold bricks, characters and red mail boxes too! We usually always play the Lego games together and we always have to play them twice. This is one of the only things about the Lego games that really annoy me – apart from this I mainly just have love for them :D . I like the Lego games for several different reasons. I like the fact that I can actually complete them and get the 1000G. In the older ones we used to have a lot of fun dragging each other off the map, but this is now sorted thanks to the split screen feature (which is actually really helpful). I like that I can kill Steven in many funny ways and it not damaging the score or gameplay. I like all the silly references to the movies/books they are portraying. And I like all the silliness! The guys who are in charge of transforming the stories into little plastic bricks are nothing but amazing. The way they manage to get the original feeling and references across and still stay true to the original story in such a short space of gameplay is just fantastic. And the small reference where they change something completely obvious are usually very funny! What can I say – I just love these games…. However – no matter how much I love them I would still prefer not to have to play them twice. So come on TT Games – I love you guys so please sort the second player thing out so I can spend my time playing more of your games and maybe even get a chance to attack my pile of shame! :D
